一方面⋯⋯,(另)一方面⋯⋯ (yī fāngmiàn…, (lìng) yī fāngmiàn…) is a Chinese grammar structure used to talk about different sides, reasons, or aspects of the same situation—very similar to saying “on one hand…, on the other hand…” in English.
Structure:
一方面……,(另)一方面……
Sometimes you’ll also see 又 / 也 / 还 after 另一方面 to add emphasis.
It can both used to show contrast (two opposing ideas), or show two parallel or complementary reasons/aspects.
Sample Sentences
一方面我想出去旅行,另一方面又担心花太多钱。On one hand I want to travel, but on the other hand I’m worried about spending too much money.
他喜欢这份工作,一方面工资高,另一方面也很有挑战性。He likes this job: on one hand the salary is high, and on the other hand it is very challenging.
一方面学习很重要,另一方面也要注意休息。On one hand studying is important, and on the other hand you also need to rest.
