反之 (fǎnzhī) introduces an opposite situation, reverse condition, or contrast.
It is very common in formal writing and logical essays.
Structure:
A + 反之 + B
Notes:
Used to show that if the first condition is true, the opposite result will also be true.
It is different from 反而 (fǎn’ér), which means “unexpected result”.
Special phrase – 反之亦然 (fǎn zhī yì rán) “vice versa”:
你尊重别人,别人也会尊重你;反之亦然。
If you respect others, they will respect you, and vice versa.
Sample Sentences
他喜欢热闹,反之,我喜欢安静。He likes lively places; conversely, I prefer quiet ones.
多运动可以增强体质,反之,久坐会损害健康。More exercise strengthens your body; on the contrary, sitting too long harms your health.
成功需要坚持,反之,半途而废的人很难实现目标。Success requires persistence; conversely, people who give up halfway rarely reach their goals.

In interpersonal relationships, sincerity and respect are the most important qualities. If you are willing to listen to others, they will be more willing to communicate with you; if you respect others, they will respect you as well, and the reverse is also true. If someone is always self-centered and never considers other people’s feelings, conversely, they are often ignored or pushed away.
