The Chinese structure 为⋯⋯,而⋯⋯ (wèi...ér...) is used to express the purpose or motivation behind an action, followed by the effort or method undertaken to achieve that purpose. This structure is formal and commonly seen in written or formal spoken Chinese.
The structure follows this pattern:
Subject + 为 + Goal + 而 + Efforts Made
To negate the structure, add 不 before 为:
Subject + 不 + 为 + Goal + 而 + Efforts Made
In less formal contexts, 为了 can replace 为, although the sentence might lose some of its formal tone.
